Nearly $20 million in local impact and community grants awarded by the Cordish Companies, Live!® Casino & Hotel Maryland and the Anne Arundel County Local Development Council for FY27
HANOVER, MD – The Cordish Companies, Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland and the Anne Arundel County Local Development Council (LDC) awarded nearly $20 million in local impact and community grants yesterday to organizations across Anne Arundel County for Fiscal Year 2027. Grant recipients were honored during an annual award ceremony and luncheon at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland’s Event Center.
The property has made giving back to Anne Arundel County a central part of its role in the community since opening in 2012. The local impact and community grants are funded by gaming tax revenue. Over the past 14 years, Anne Arundel County has granted more than $400 million in total funds from revenue generated by Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland.
"We should all thank the Maryland General Assembly for creating this program, the community leaders who review applications and recommend investments, and the team at Live! for generating the revenue that has so effectively served West County for the last 14 years," said County Executive Steuart Pittman.
The LDC grants have contributed to various projects including the fulfillment of the community facility known as the Severn Center, the maintenance of the BWI County Connector bus, and the recent securement of a new fire engine at the Jessup Volunteer Fire Company station.
“For us, it is a privilege and personal responsibility to make impactful contributions to the greater community,” said Joseph Weinberg, Principal of The Cordish Companies. “Our support of the LDC’s mission to better the lives of Anne Arundel County residents is proven by our strong partnership and the lasting legacy of these recognized organizations and the work they do.”
Grants were presented to each recipient by representatives of Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland and members of the LDC with elected County officials. Honorees included county agencies and public institutions, human service nonprofits, neighborhood and homeowner associations, community improvement initiatives, and education-focused organizations expanding access to learning, literacy and enrichment across Anne Arundel County. The Local Development Council reviews local needs and suggests grant recipients to the County Executive each year. Those recommendations were included in the County Executive’s FY2027 Budget. The process helps guide gaming tax revenue back into the county through grants that support public needs and local groups with a clear role in the community.
“Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland has shown year after year that it wants to be more than a business in Anne Arundel County,” said Karen McJunkin, LDC Chairperson. “It has been a charitable neighbor and a valued partner. These grants show how service and support at the county level can reach people in direct and lasting ways.”
